Pet-Friendly Bathroom Remodels

At Crystal Bath & Shower Company, we know that people put their furry friends first in a lot of ways. Our four-legged family members get the best care possible, from food to vet care. Sometimes, though, people forget to remodel their homes with pets in mind. Wood floors may look nice and increase the property value of your home, but the soft material scratches easily under a dog’s paw. White couches add a beautiful, modern flair to a living room, but often don’t hold up to pet fur and stains.

One of the often-missed places to remodel with pets in mind is the bathroom. Here are a few ways that you can keep both you and your pets happy in the bathroom:

Out of Sight, Out of Mind: Unused bathroom cabinets are a great place to remodel for your pets. No one likes looking at a litter box, even if it’s clean. A bathroom cabinet keeps the litter box out of sight. By adding a small hole for your cat, she can get in and out with ease. This also works wonders for keeping dogs out of the litter box! For Fido, you can use the cabinet space for food dishes that gives him his own food nook. This keeps messes from spreading all over the house, and gives your pup a designated feeding space.

Bath Time: Dog-friendly showers and handheld shower heads make bath time a breeze. Whether you install these features in a mudroom, utility room, or bathroom, they’ll keep your dog from tracking muddy paws all over the house. A lower height allows for ease in bathing, and a small lip around the edge keeps water in no matter how much he shakes his fur! While your cat may not appreciate a bath, both you and your dog will wag your tails with joy over a shower designed with his needs in mind.

Water, Water Everywhere: Both dogs and cats are notorious for drinking water straight from a toilet bowl. If they gravitate to the bathroom to take care of their water needs, installing a bubbler may solve the toilet trouble. Running water keeps dogs and cats away from the toilet, and provides access to fresh, circulating water. While bubblers or fountains can be installed in any room of your house, installing a bubbler in the bathroom allows you to plumb it right into the water line. That way, you don’t have to keep an eye on the water level, or constantly refill the tank.

Tough-As-Nails Floors: As mentioned earlier, wood floors are a no-no for pets with sharp claws. And in the bathroom, carpet went out of style several decades ago due to mold and mildew concerns. At Crystal Bath & Shower Company, we recommend ceramic tiles, which hold up well to both water and sharp claws, especially if your pet decides to make a break for it in the middle of bath time!
